(AP) Donald Trump was the target of what the FBI said "appears to be an attempted assassination" at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday, just nine weeks after the Republican presidential nominee survived another attempt on his life. The former president said he was safe, and authorities held a man in custody.
US Secret Service agents, out a few holes from where Trump was playing, noticed the muzzle of an AK-style rifle poking through shrubbery lining the course, about 400 yards away.
A deputy was fired. The gunman dropped the rifle and made off in an SUV, leaving behind the firearm, as well as two backpacks, an aiming scope, and a GoPro camera, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said. He was later spotted by law enforcement in a neighboring county.

According to Martin County Sheriff William Snyder, the man who was detained appeared quite docile-looking with a flat face and little affective expression as he was detained.
"He never asked: What's this all about? Obviously, law enforcement with long rifles, blue lights, a lot going on. He never questioned it," Snyder said.
